Fund for Global Human Rights

As part of the sustainability plan and risk mitigation tool, NOPRIN paid an advocacy visit to the Lagos State Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission. The visit is part of the sustainability plan and risk mitigation tool for the project. At the meeting, discussions centred around how NOPRIN and NHRC can collaborate in the implementation of the project. NOPRIN sought to leverage NHRC’s influence in reaching out to other stakeholders, particularly within the MDAs.

NOPRIN, in partnership with the NHRC, paid an advocacy visit to the CP. The CP was represented by  DCP Khan Salihu and SP Ben Hundeyin. At the meeting, NOPRIN briefed the DCP on the purpose of the visit, which includes, amongst others, a partnership to implement the project to strengthen the outreach and operations of the Complaint Response Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.  The DCP appreciated the work NOPRIN and other stakeholders were doing in supporting the police.  He was excited about the proposed partnership and pledged the support of the Command in whatever means possible in implementing the project.

NOPRIN Foundation, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, Lagos State Office, conducted a field visit to the Lagos State Police Command’s Complaints Response Unit as part of the ongoing efforts towards strengthening the outreach and operations of the Unit.

The visit allowed for meaningful engagement with key officers, discussions on accountability, and the strengthening of mechanisms for responding to public complaints. Together, we are working towards building a more transparent and effective police force that serves the people with integrity and fairness.

With the support of Fund for Global Human Rights under the Action Group on Free Civic Space project, NOPRIN conducted a one -day capacity building on inclusive policing for police officers and community based organization in Akure, Ondo State.  According to the Action Group on Free Civic Space security playbook, Nigeria Police Force has misused security laws and regulations to restrict the civic space. On the 9th of November, 2023 in Akure, Ondo State, the Network on Police Reform in Nigeria engaged police officers and community-based organisations in a one-day capacity-building program on inclusive policing.

NOPRIN participated in the learning interaction between Action Group on Free Civic Space and the Coast Civil Society Network, Kenya.

During this interaction, members of the two coalitions (AGFCS and CSSN) shared and learned about the various disruptive, reformative and transformative initiatives undertaken to strengthen the civic space in Nigeria and Kenya.
